Katy Perry and 200 artists warn in a letter about being supplanted by artificial intelligence.

More than 200 musicians have banded together to file a lawsuit against OpenAI, marking one of the music industry's boldest efforts to defend artists' rights in the face of rapid breakthroughs in AI technology.

According to Rolling Stone, over 200 artists, including prominent names such as Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, the Jonas Brothers, and Smokey Robinson, have banded together to address rising worries about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the music industry.

These musicians, led by the nonprofit Artist Rights Alliance, wrote an open letter to AI developers, technology corporations, and digital platforms demanding them to stop activities that infringe human artists' rights.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been known for a while, but interest in the subject peaked when OpenAI debuted ChatGPT in 2022. Since then, several organizations have developed their own AI tools that are trained on enormous volumes of human-generated data.

This has frequently created controversy, as original content providers believe that AI poses a threat to them. A few months ago, hundreds of authors banded together to challenge OpenAI for utilizing their works without permission to train LLM students.

While recognizing the potential benefits of artificial intelligence when used responsibly, artists warned against its misuse to sabotage creativity and exploit artists and rights holders.
