Spotify tries playlists created by AI in response to text cues.

Following in the footsteps of other businesses over the past year, Spotify is dabbling in the field of artificial intelligence prompts. AI Playlist, a new beta tool on the site, allows you to construct playlists with just a few phrases that encapsulate the desired musical mood, such "an indie folk playlist to give my brain a big warm hug."

Spotify claims that requests include animals, movie characters, colors, locations, activities, and emojis will be accepted by the AI playlist. Spotify gives a variety of examples, such as "melancholic music for painting dying flowers" and "calm music to get me through allergy season." To make the perfect playlist for your vibe, it suggests combining a variety of qualities in your request.

Premium users in Australia and the UK can access the AI Playlist beta on their iOS and Android smartphones. If that describes you, click the "+" button in the upper right corner of your library to access it. Select an already-existing prompt or make your own by clicking AI Playlist.

You can add notes, remove songs, and preview the playlist that Spotify creates. After you're satisfied, click Create to save the file to your library.

More than a year has passed since Spotify debuted its AI DJ, which curates a playlist of songs you've previously listened to, ones you're now listening to, and ones it predicts you'll like based on your past. You can ask the DJ to change the music if it's not exactly what you're feeling like listening to.
