Neil Mohan,
the CEO of Google's YouTube platform, declared on Tuesday in a message about
his "bet" for 2024 that content creators should be regarded as
"new generation studios," with the expectation that artificial
intelligence will serve as a "catalyst for human creativity."
Many artists
are concerned about generative AI tools because they believe that the
entertainment industry, including movies, publishing, and music, may use artificial
intelligence algorithms to make low-cost material without the use of human
labor.
During last
year's historic Hollywood strike, actors and screenwriters demanded guarantees
to safeguard themselves against this hazard.
However, Neil
Mohan believes that AI models would "stimulate creativity."
YouTube has
introduced tools that allow users to build backdrops for "Shorts"
videos, which are short video snippets comparable to TikTok films, by making
basic requests in normal English.
The
popularity of this smartphone application in recent years has spurred
competition among entertainment platforms to attract the most popular content
creators and influencers, resulting in increased user attention and advertising
earnings.
YouTube
generated $9.2 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2023, a 15.5 percent
increase over the previous year, and premium subscriptions (music and/or video)
currently produce $15 billion for the Google Group.
"Today,
there are more than 3 million members of the YouTube Partner Program, which
allows content creators to earn money on YouTube," Mohan said.
He noted that
this program "has paid more money than any other monetization program to
content creators. We have provided more than $70 billion to content creators,
artists, and media companies in the past three years."
"Viewers
around the world now watch an average of more than a billion hours of YouTube
content on their televisions every day," he noted.
Google also
intends to defend YouTube content creators until their work is "recognized."
